mother’s day minis
a backyard garden mini session event, Amanda Nichols style
Oh the Mama’s Day Minis. They are near and dear to my heart, and this year is extra special. I welcome you for the fourth and final time at the old stone house.
As many of you know, these sessions go way beyond your typical mini session event. And of course they do, right?
Can Amanda Nichols do anything mini?
Could I possible shuffle you in and out like cattle, snapping a few and sending off a gallery of a dozen posed photos?
Of course not. This year’s event - hopefully not my last but my last here at this old stone house - will be just as you expect:
big hugs, wispy sheets blowing in a spring wind, potted flowers, weathered wicker, snacks and lemonade, June and Chance greeting you with happy tails, my son, Silas, running around in his yellow rain boots.
When I ask you how you are - even if I’m short on time - I always want the long version. These are something like that.

Give yourselves the gift of being seen, mamas.
This is not the polite cell phone snap your partner takes as evidence that you exist during their childhoods. This is another mama looking you in the eyes saying I see you. I know it’s freaking hard. Let me show you how beautiful your chaos is. Let me take a photograph of your resilience, your grit, your strength.
I want more pregnant mamas, postpartum mamas, breastfeeding mamas. I want wrinkled linen and fistfuls of dandelions. I want to ask your child what is their favorite thing about their mother, and I want to capture your face as they say it.
As always, I encourage mamas coming early and staying after to snack and mingle, as I believe whole-heartedly in community. I have a big yard and there will be lemonade and cookies and my own mother here to greet you. My son will surely be toddling around, and no doubt, my eyes will be tired too, but ready to meet you right where you are.
