wild love.

i am not a wedding photographer, or a family photographer as much as i am an

A R T I S T.

i am not caught up ever so much in the business of finding clients, or clean lines, or proper exposure; rather, i am ever so infatuated with connecting with humans - real ones - with appreciating the messy and the rawness of their humanity, and telling their story as i see it as not a business owner or a trained professional, or - god forbid - another vendor - but as an

A R T I S T.

i hope so dearly i’ve lost most of you by now. for those still reading are the kindred souls i’d like to keep, to have over for warm coffee, to hold their hearts with my lens and tell their stories. i photograph like i live my life:

don’t cover up the messy, dig into the season you are in, drown in the wildness of whatever it is you are feeling

for nothing weirds me out more than clean lines and light and airiness. when i see those kinds of images, i think of nothing else but of east coast prep in a strange, unrealistic world of fake smiles and forced laughter.

don’t get me wrong, i adore light, but don’t skip the darkness. give me blacks, grittiness, mood. i want shadows just as much as i want sun beams and light flares in your favorite field. but we are not pure white. we are not easy. we are complicated and real, wild and exposed, moving and emotional, and that is the absolute only thing i wish to capture.

for anything that lacks shadows also lacks depth.

thoughts on vulnerability and art and authenticity over on the blog today. such inspiration from this spontaneous hose golden hour session with my dear friend @face_with_a_view and her darling daughter. Few sessions show where my heart lives and the direction I want my art to go than these images.
It was a gift and an honor to witness Neil and Johnnie’s wedding on Saturday at the incredibly beautiful Bear Mill Estate. I keep thinking I’ve done this so many times I should be finished with feeling so surprised by my gratitude for weddings, but each time I am enamored. Thank you to @shiftedfocusphotography for assisting me on Saturday and for being such a good human, artist, and friend.
Geralee + Luke’s reception was so magical. I always love shooting at @pumphousebnb
this Olympic National Park elopement is on my blog if you missed it! 🌲❤️🌲
I’ve always been humble almost to a fault, almost to a point where even posting on social media embarrasses me. Sometimes it feels too much like boasting. I only want to clamber behind the camera and make art; the only images I really care for capturing are the ones that make you feel something.
still can’t get over this bouquet from @fireandblooms ❤️ can we work together again soon pleeeassee?
